How To Build An Email List?

By Nathan Sloan

This post is for everybody who would like to build a big email list and improve their conversion rate from email marketing. First up, we need to understand that there are 2 ways in which you can market to people.

By interrupting them ie TV, Radio, Magazines etc. This is where you sending out your message to a large amount of people, interrupting them and hoping some of them will buy.

This is the work of the industrial age and is losing its effectiveness. The other form of marketing is by permission based marketing.

Ok, so you have a have a big reason why people should join and have a lot of value that you can offer people, you now need a way to deliver that message.

There are now several email companies you can use. Having used a few I now use and recommend Aweber.

You want a system that a ten year old can use simply. You get an easy reporting system to see what is working and what isn't and it is very fairly priced.

By now you have great content to send and a way to send it. You now need eye balls. It's now time to build your list so we need a method for collecting names and emails.

This is normally placed in your side bar, within or below your posts. The other popular method is the pop up which pops in front of the users screen.

The other popular method is the pop up. This pops in front of the users screen after a set amount of time. Most of the top email providers have videos to show you exactly how to do this.

The final part of the puzzle is to give your reader a reason to sign up. This can be in text, audio or video. Whatever you are most comfortable in.

Try not to look at it from your point of view, think what would my audience find valuable. A good rule of thumb is that it must improve their life in some way.

A great place to get ideas for creating your incentive is to look inside a busy forum. I think forums are still a massively underutilized method for market research.
