Using Search Engine Optimization As A Means To Advance Your Business

By Arthur Albao

The term, search engine optimization, refers to the process of using key words and phrases so that your content becomes more visible to the major search engines. Proper usage will get your website and content ranked higher in page rank. Using them improperly will lower your rank, and may even get you ignored or rejected.

Getting a high page rank is important for getting traffic. If a surfer types in a term and your site appears near the top of the list, you will be more apt to be read. Surfers usually only check out the top few listings, so if you are further down, your site won't be clicked on. The higher rankings indicate more relevant information. So, getting at or near the top is important.

Certain key words relate to your business or content. These words are related to what you are promoting. This is called your niche. Though there are elaborate systems to determine which words are most searched for, it is still relatively easy to learn how to determine them. Doing your own search for your words will let you know how many searches are made for that word.

To make the most of your chosen keywords, there are certain guidelines using these words in your title and content. There is percentage guidelines to get the most mileage from them, without overloading and getting thrown out for possible spamming.

You should be well aware of whether the content you are offering is relevant. If you write it yourself you can control its focus. But, even if it is outsourced, you still need to make sure the content is relevant. Clicking on a key word and getting content not even related to it can mean the loss of a potential customer.

They quality of content is extremely important. Of course, grammar and spelling are important, but that is not all of quality. The information should be unique, valuable, and accurate. In this way, surfers will consider your site a valuable resource that they will check often.

When you use a key word or phrase inappropriately, such as putting it in a sentence or paragraph in which it doesn't make sense, you are key word stuffing. You may get a lower ranking, or even be rejected by search engines with this practice. Follow the industry-accepted percentage and you will have the best search engine optimization.
