Will You Make The Web Profits Available With The Web-Run Enterprise?

By Alan Taylor

Where will your own online internet business developments emerge by 2020? How much of your web profits master activity, for example on marketing and development, and related computing can be done by networking off-premise in 'The Cloud"?

The larger your business, then the more efficient and cost-effective it will become, to out-source the whole back-office and systems-of-record to a new centralized shared-service centre, sited somewhere in a data centre around the globe in the eponymous "Cloud". Most conventional business enterprise systems will be run off-premise as internal IT functions are rationalized. With the fast acceleration of reliability in areas such as In-Memory Databases and Advanced predictive Analytics, running these software applications from the Cloud will become reality. So, we are fast approaching the era of the "Web Run Enterprise". This applies to any size of enterprise, whether it is a $50billion global company or you are a single home-based one-man band entrepreneur.

This entails that the Web-Run Enterprise will actually run itself. Customer Relationship Management ("CRM"), Order Processing, Supply Chain, Cash Management and Accounting will work using in-memory technologies that prompt new, more efficient company operating procedures. The implications must now be clear.

In-memory power, from using multiple regression, can yield unimagined powers to churn through data from detailed levels in order to simulate detailed options. An advanced generation of "Adaptive Business Intelligence" will mean that management can stick to the big decisions. For example, on how to allocate tactical expenditure and long-term strategic investment - whether it is in capacity or new products. The science works. The algorithms for simulation are tried and tested.

In the longer term consumers will hunt the fastest fulfillment at the best price through information and fulfilment aggregators, with brand loyalties to retailers (multi-channel or otherwise) completely eroded.

What are the consequences for the small to medium-sized enterprise? Or for the sole trader start-up?. While the large corporations are still stuck in strategic reviews, the small business or sole internet marketer can be far more flexible. This offers real opportunities for the web-based small venture.

How? There are three main opportunities.

1. Your operational capabilities could be outsourced. You can use contractors from the developing economies, mainly Brazil, India and most of South-East Asia. See how they will supply most IT services at much lower costs, in comparison with the old-economy service providers. Therefore, even the small businesses could run their operations with more complex systems. They could innovate much faster too, in order to grow their own user base with improved customer offers, compared to bigger, slower-moving competitors

2. Scale up. Go for more ambitious services to larger organizations or new customer segments. Offer more frequent fulfillment of either product or service delivery, to beat the competition

3. Get several internet-based innovations to provide an exceptionally different customer offer. Then bolster your internal business systems process and accounting support from off-premise in the Cloud

Become swifter to recognize emerging needs in tighter user segments and then your success will arrive. Or create future needs by ambitious web marketing tactics. With off-premise cloud-base support programmes and by changing marketing or pricing instantly, you can meet these customer needs and take better decisions, based on leading-edge business intelligence.
