Collection Companies: Are They Obsessive to Students?

By Rob Sutter

It's time to feel proud since you've just graduated from your respective school and that degree you've wanted for so long is in your possession. The road to get there wasn't easy but now that you're at the end of it, the world is practically yours to do with as you please. You feel extremely hopeful but that may come to a skidding stop once you receive that first student loan notice in the nail. You know that every cent must be accounted and paid off, but what happens once collection companies start to make their way in? To say the least, your academic affairs become difficult.

From the perspective of a former student who is currently making monthly payments on his student loans, I know all too well how daunting it can be. Student loans, simply by association, are not that inexpensive and they can make quite an impact on one's wallet over ten years' time. It's no wonder why a good number of young people steer clear of an education. Students who try to make payments but simply can't do so may encounter collection companies that are employed to take care of attaining the necessary funds. While organizations such as Rapid Recovery respect all parties in a case, this isn't the situation for all organizations in question.

Plenty of former students undergo quite a bit of stress once they graduate. It's a happy occasion but it's not long until they are out in the world in attempts to find work. Their priorities are set, they feel, but it doesn't seem that way since student loans collectors are quick to swoop down to gain what they need. If collection companies get involved, which they shouldn't, the situation has the potential to worsen. For example, no collector has the lawful right to call a debtor outside of 8 AM to 9 PM, yet it happens and this is where the abuse may start.

Even if I am a former student who has expenses to pay, I can't say we're all innocent. Most, if not all of us, hit strides of laziness but they never impact us to the point where we can't function as we should. We know what we have to do and our priorities are straight. This can't be said for all students, though, as some of them couldn't care less if the debts pile on and the other students in the world will not matter to them. I don't want to stay in debt longer than I should with my student loans, so I don't personally appreciate their actions.

I like the fact that I was able to earn a college degree and being able to attain that on my own is a great feeling. I give my thanks to the school as well for giving me the platform in order for my academic endeavors to create something tangible. What may be difficult for me to appreciate are those that have made my student loan payments harder than they should have been. Immoral collection companies shouldn't home in on students like they have been. However, the former students who can't bother to attempt payments are ones I don't want to be associated with.
