E-Mail For Building A Client Network

By Cole Harris

Business today have much to gain from e-mail marketing.

You could use a newsletter to drum up interest in your company while you showcase your skill and assets. Sending an e-mail newsletter keeps your company in the mind of your growing network. And a good e-mail newsletter will be forwarded to their friends, therefore expanding your network.

So how do you start this?

First of all, know what your audience are interested in. Listen to them. When you discuss your business, what questions arise from your customers? There are probably about ten customers with the same question.

Observe what your customers actually read. E-mail marketing is great because you can keep track of everything. And soon you will know which of your articles are read by customers.

You can also give your readers an easy way to provide feedback, so you learn even more about what interests them and what they would like to hear about.

It's also a good idea if you give your readers a little free advice. You want to give them something to ponder on. You don't really need to be an expert on all sorts of things. Just be your customer's expert. Give them something that could be helpful to them.

Each of your newsletters should have short features or some quick information. You could even give them a way to see other articles that you found interesting online. Keeping a file of article ideas will make things easier.

You should also organize your contact database, and get permission to add certain contacts to your mailing list. Then begin collecting new contacts with permission. Be sure to tell a person that you would like to add them to your mailing list and that they can always unsubscribe if they found it not to their liking.

Next, find a marketing service that's a good fit for your business. A good e-mail marketing service will provide list management services (opt in, unsubscribe, dedupe, etc.), newsletter templates (HTML formatting, table of contents and more) and mailing, delivery and reporting functions.

Using the right service is inexpensive, easy to use, and will ensure that you look highly professional when you send out your newsletter.

You have much to gain with e-mail newsletters.

You can start with quarterly newsletters and maybe monthly ones later on. Once you're in a rhythm, your e-newsletters will practically write themselves.
