In reality they merely traded one job for another; the more success they have, the more they're chained to it no matter what they do.
Without naming names, there are even some really prolific leaders that even promote that being tied to your MLM business was somehow noble and cool, and your dream is pathetic if you do not do just that.
Personally, that wasn't what I enrolled in.
The Issues I have actually Seen With the Old MLM Success Model
1. There is much more work involved than the leaders let on about.
They say just get 3 in who get 3 in, who get 3 in ... but it essentially never works like that. The only honest answer to getting the MLM success you're searching for is to get 2 sales and/or signups per day on your own, and when you only have your physical body, your time, and your emotional strength to stand up to rejection after rejection (some harsher than others) are the only things you can leverage using the old method, it considerably restricts what you can produce, and the time in which you can produce.

In fact what takes place is that we're sold on how "anybody can do this" by a master salesman while they forget to discuss the skills that you need to learn to get any traction, and the sacrifice that has to be made. It is improving in that regard depending on which company and/or team of leaders you go with, but the misinformation epidemic still runs widespread in the industry no matter where you turn.
2. It produces substantial undue stress in numerous close relationships.
In my quest for MLM success I personally had an extremely strong, really jarring experience while speaking to my friends and family about enrolling with the MLM I was in at the time.
The one time that truly stands out is when I was just fresh in my very first MLM, and I attempted talking with one of my best friends about it. I don't remember exactly how it escalated, but it really rapidly sent him into a straight up rage, to the point where I literally thought that my close friend will physically attack me just for even speaking with him about this. Just that was enough to stop me talking to anybody else about this for a while, especially to him.
How on earth, in good conscience, can I reasonably expect to ask people to put themselves through something like that?
3. The leaders are selling a dream that they themselves are not living.
I'm not sure if you can relate to this, but I knew some people personally, who were actually very successful in the eyes of everybody in the company, who would fly around the country on their own dime, trying to sell the dream of freedom, of time, of being with their family, and all that really good stuff.
However, typically what you see beneath it all is just somebody who is so damn worried with managing family, pounding phones to get brand-new people in, attempting to keep a cap on the outrageous attrition levels in their group, and now flying around the country (again by themselves dime) to tell hotel rooms full of people that "this life could be yours."
4. The commissions are insanely low; it take hundreds of people to actually break even on expenses of doing business.
Let's be real right here, no matter what MLM business you enter, the rate of people taking a loss on the price of their autoship alone (not to mention whatever costs they sustain on whatever advertising they attempt) is definitely staggering. The bar of how many people that you have to bring into your business just to break even in your regular monthly expenses oftens be insanely high because of the commissions you get per sale is just so low it's just about criminal.
It even gets to the point where the large hitters, like one of my personal coaches, say that they actually feel clashed about bringing new people in since these brand-new people struggle for years to just break even in their business, and the quantity of those who struggle is just crushing. They even come to a point where they actually stop bringing people in because their conscience just tears at them; they are stuck wondering if they really are doing them a service by bringing them into their MLM company.
