Stickiness Essentials for Your Business Blog

By Megan Jocy

Any new blog has to break into their niche market and convince people of the value to be found there. No matter what you do that you think is great, it is your readers who have the deciding vote. So if you want your blog to be successful, you have to make it sticky. Make the decision that you will not settle for less because if you do, then you are setting yourself up for mediocrity. Put the following to work on your blog and see if it helps your site improve the sticky factor.

Put something on your blog about subscribing to it, and even sell it and use a call to action that is direct. Don't just have your invitations above the fold of your page, but also below it, and be sure to focus on achieving a high subscription rate by working on your call to actions. If you are working on your first blog, then put this down as something to plan on. A lot of blogs do not give enough attention and effort to getting subscribers for their content and that is a mistake. We very rarely see blogs take the time to explain why a visitor should subscribe to that blog. Not everybody is familiar with RSS and not all of your readers know how easy it is to stay updated. So then just assume none of them know anything at all, and then you can proceed from that point. We have only seen a few blogs where an entire page was devoted to this, how to do it and why it should be done. Yes, you have to convert people for this just like you go for high conversion rates with anything else.

If you can write good content that performs, then you can move people to want to return and read the rest of the story. You need to learn how to tease people a little bit so they feel like they have to find out what is next. This obviously leads to repeat visits by the reader; so yes, creating a moment definitely helps. The one thing to avoid is becoming very predictable because that can lead to a stale experience.

People that read blogs are not only interested in the post, but also the comments, and it is the comments section where a lot of people hang out. You will not hurt anything by being more assertive in your blog marketing, and this is just another thing you can market right there on your blog. Anything you can do to or use in the way of an interactive element is worth doing.

But ultimately, you'll see for yourself how your efforts pay, and once you have a regular flow of readers to your blog, there's no looking back. Cultivate the mindset that nothing will get in your way or make you quit, and that is how you overcome obstacles.
