A Closer Look at SEO and Other Internet Marketing Tools

By Phil J Preston

It's often hard to get a clear picture of the true quality of things on the internet. With so much clever marketing out there, you don't really know whether you're reading real reviews, or getting pointed in the best direction on subjects at times. One area where this is especially apparent is with internet marketing itself. So it pays to ask what the differences between internet marketing methods are, and whether they're really effective or not. Here's a brief overview on the subject.

Something that's useful to know is what SEO is. This is the basic foundation of internet marking at the moment. It uses articles and blogs to boost the profile of your website by promoting web traffic and building links. However, there are good and bad ways of doing this. Google are cracking down on companies that produce bad content and poor quality fake blogs, because it gets in the way of good quality data, and they have always been tough on people that use programming tricks to hide banks of links. These will get found out, and you can be punished for it, so go with an SEO company that doesn't promise fast results, but talks about good content and strategy instead.

One of the most obvious ways of marketing yourself on the web is to use pay per click search engine advertising. This is a fast approach, where you bid a pay per click price on a particular subject for search engines, such as 'bikes' and then hand over that amount of cash to the search engine for every user that uses the link. This is good for short term advertising, such as launching a new product, and if you know you can convert that web traffic into custom once people find the site. But for long terms plans or a less accessible product, if can cost you a lot of money with little return.

Social networks are also the latest place to find customers. For this, you need a product people that use social networks are going to be interested in, and you need to supply incentives for them to friend you so that you can target them with more advertising.

When using any of these methods, think carefully about the costs against the money you stand to make. You need to be able to sell to those users that you're attracting as well as get them to look at your site in the first place, otherwise you will lose money.
