Where are Web sites Going?

By Andrew Jacobs

Websites have made some fascinating changes in the last few years. If we have a look at websites today compared with 10 years back, so much has changed. Design wise, sites now virtually resemble the quality of released documents or leaflets. Various technologies make web sites fun and more interactive than previously.

Social media already plays a massive part of websites in our daily lives. Facebook and Twitter are way more well-liked. While plenty of other similar social networks have come along and tried to take on the 2 largest sites online, many have obviously failed while these are at the top of their game. Facebook and Twitter will not let their position slip like MySpace did.

Instead we are going to see sites that extend on the popularity of Facebook and work with it. Such sites offer a more unique selling point if you will. In the last few months we have witnessed the rising recognition of Pinterest. Google and other search engines are now watching these sites very closely and are even keeping a place in their ranking for them.

HTML5 is more popular and is continually increasing in new site builds. With the releasing of the new Abobe CS6 suite, sites that are optimised for all platforms will be more common. After all tablet devices have become more well liked by each new gadget that hits the market. It's time to remember the 3 kinds of user that are going to be viewing your content. With Adobe CS6 fluid sites are straight forward to build.Web design companies need to keep their software up to date if they're going to keep on top of their game. Adobe know they need to keep their software at the leading edge to avoid losing to platforms like Wordpress.

We certainly see the tablet market increasing and finally overtaking and making laptops obsolete. Desktop will be here for good for work environments or where the user needs a huge range of control. Web site design has often been tricky to keep a variety of users contented. However , it's even more tough than before with so many device types around.

Good content managed sites still have their place. Even with CMS platforms like Wordpress which are limited by their plugins, bespoke remains the best answer for more unique sites and technical features. Without seriously high customising, Wordpress sites have a habit of a visible appearance that is similar to each other.

The most important changes are coming with fluid layouts they adapt to the sort of user but won't become the norm until at least 2014. It's an interesting time and we are in for the long haul.
