Facebook: Why You Should Use It

By Joseph Stan

Everyone knows Facebook, is not just any website on the internet. Since it was created in a Harvard dorm room over 6 years ago, it has been a power house. Mark Zuckerberg started Facebook and since then has achieved over 500 millions users worldwide. Even though it was a rough start, this might be the fastest growing company ever. There are many people who also criticized the social site for many things.

In the year 2004 Facebook was only available to students in Harvard University. Later, the site expanded to multiple schools almost overnight. In 2005 adults and high school students decided to check out the new social network. By 2006 Facebook was simply the place to meet online friends and see what people were talking about. Then, it went worldwide with the majority of international users being middle-aged women.

The owner is always trying new things and features to see how the site performs. Many of these changes were not received in a good manner, since they affect how the users control their private data on the site. One of these changes happened recently. The change involved displaying the list of friends each user had. These resulted in many people leaving the site and stopped using the service.

Many don't always agree with changes and features implemented by the site. But, even in controversy the social network continues to grow each year non-stop. When Facebook introduced the like button and the news feed it was accepted worldwide. These 2 features are what most people quickly identify from the popular site. Today Facebook is a online success story and a place to talk to old and new friends and even do business.

Back in the day Friendster was built with the purpose to help people socialize. Myspace one time was popular and built around the same concept. But, Facebook took it to a whole new level, building the most powerful worldwide communication tool on the internet today. Myspace and Friendster did not stood a chance with the technology and sophistication implemented with Facebook. It is clear to see why this social network has stood the test of time and passed every obstacle they ever encounter and it continues to grow today.
