One of the most challenging things when you're working at home is making sure the kids are kept busy. Days will come when you have to work but your kids just won't get distracted. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and sometimes you just need to do the unexpected.
Some home based work require you to be at home. But then again, if you have a laptop, you could probably bring it with you someplace that can distract the kids. Even though you still need to keep an eye on your children, you wouldn't have to worry about keeping them busy.
While you're working at home, what are some things you can do with your children? If you have older kids, they could help you with some of your work because they know you'll get to play with them once you're done with work.
There are times, however, when you can take advantage of your flexible hours. Take some time off and play with your kids. Spend time with them for a while and enjoy yourselves with games and other activities. You may do this once in a while, but too much and your kids will get used to it and expect you to stop working and just play with them.
But sometimes parents who work at home don't have the privilege to do this. Some home based work don't have flexible hours. Therefore, it may be a good idea to call someone for help. It's not necessary for that person to be an adult. Having an older child come over and play with your kids will be enough distraction for them and you can finally get some work done.
If your kids continue to demand your attention, then maybe it's time to change your work hours. Because children's needs changes as they grow, your schedule may also have to change because it no longer work for them.
Often you just have to tell yourself the reasons why you made the decision to work at home. You have a lot of priorities like schedules and deadlines, but also remember that your children also need you. Your children should be high in your priorities, as well as letting them know how essential they are in your life.
