How Complete Contacts Can Help Your Online Business

By Karen McFarland

One of the biggest turnoffs is a website without contact information. Your customers must be able to reach you. Fortunately, you can be contacted in a number of ways. You can publish any of the following on your website - your cell phone, your land line number, your e-mail address, your mailing address, your fax number, or your instant messaging ID. You don't need to include all of this information, just a few would do. Many online businesses for that matter don't show their phone numbers online. As long as you have something to help your customers stay updated, it's all good.

You don't even have to list your email address if your business is one that relies heavily on phone contact, rather than email or other mediums. If your customers are technologically savvy people, they may prefer to contact you through e-mail. You may be in a business that caters to an older clientele, and you may not be able to get away with e-mail support. The form of contact options you list on your web site has to work for you customers. List as many contact options as you feel necessary, but again, don't list everything.

Even if you have a home-based business it is important to list your address. In today's day and age where identity theft is a know menace, you may not want to do this, but you can work around it. A PO box can be acquired at a very low price, and it can be done in such a way that it looks like the real address. You just need to use the PO Box number as the suite number for the physical address, which will be that of the post office. Nobody will notice the difference. It is considered proper business etiquette to include a home address even on a web site.

Aside from making sure your contact information is listed online, you should place it in a way that customers can easily find it. Why should you hide your phone number if it isn't unlisted to begin with? You can just choose an alternate form of contact if you really don't like getting calls.

If you don't want to receive calls, then don't include the phone number in the contacts. If your phone number is on the website, once again, don't hide it. If you offer a toll-free number is best to list it on your home page.
