Effective marketing is less costly than you suspect

By Ron Baker

It is a mistake to not do marketing because you think it's expensive. That's especially true in today's age of Web options.

First things first...you've got to halt spending on things that don't work and are giving you an exceedingly poor return on your investment. Items definitely include print advertisements, for example in magazines, newspapers and Yellow Pages. (The one exception in the modern age may still be paper advertisements by automobile dealers.)

Largest problem: With print advertisements, you are paying for people to see them who've no interest in what you are selling (and the total number of readers is already a lot less than it was 10 years ago).

As you consider Web options, keep some things in mind:

1. Don't just "throw an Internet site up". It has to be designed in a way that's looks professional and isn't overpowering. Focus on having it "convert", that means visitors will take the following step to become a lead or an actual customer.

Largest problem : Letting someone that talks a technical game, but doesn't really understand marketing & sales principles. In the wrong hands, your site will look amateurish and perform inadequately.

2. Local search isn't just about having a site. It's about getting listed and making a presence in some ways, and that implies showing up on more online locations.

Biggest problem : Taking your own or your staff's time to find out what to do and the way to do it. This could be an outsource situation, just like calling a plumber or going to a car engineer (if you are not expert in either).

3. Think thru the capability for PPC. This is where you run text advertisements on Google, Bing and Yahoo, only paying when someone clicks on them (which should bring them to your website).

Biggest problem : If the individual handling your Pay-per-click campaign has no pay per click or real promoting experience (they have to have done this exact task somewhere else & successfully), you'll be getting short changed on the results, leaving money on the table. In a few cases, you'll give up on something that may have produced for you. Select companies (like Molosomar) can deliver PPC leads to you without you having a domain at all.
