Simple Ways to Give Your Webpages a Professional Look

By Lindsey Morgan

It seems a solid website design goes hand in hand with any type of business that is doing well and achieved success. It is a simple fact about human nature that there is always one thing that gets noticed right away on a site. Visitors to your website will have some kind of impression within seconds of being on your site. If you are in business on the net, then your site has to at least not turn people off or make them run away as soon as they land. We cannot discuss all aspects of site design, but here are just a couple that you need to think about in relation to your site.

Even if you are not shooting for search engine rankings, it is a very good practice to assign relevant names to your webpage filenames. The primary reason for this has to do with on-page SEO, and the search engines may/do take this into consideration. That is why you want to mainly use the primary phrases for which that page is optimized. Also, avoid using underscores when you do this and do use the hyphen. This is strictly a practice for the benefit of the search bots so they can read them easier. While this all by itself is nothing, really, but it will help your site with ranking ability and better listing in the right category by Google. Some of the sites that get a ton of traffic are very simple with their designs.

People don't like cluttered up websites that are downright confusing. You have to ensure that whatever you do, the design should be minimalistic in nature and there shouldn't be anything unnecessary. One of the main reasons as to why you should have a simple design is because people tend to leave sites quickly when they don't really look appealing. Even when you're using ads, ensure that it doesn't look crowded, because that would only work against you. Besides this, creating a professional site is all about keeping things simple, so why complicate it?

If you're including pictures and images on your website, you shouldn't forget to use Alt tags to describe these images where you use your primary keywords. Alt tags not only help visitors that are visually impaired but also play a key role in helping your site rank in the search engines. That's right; the search engines value the Alt tag and search for any keywords that are included in it. They use the Alt tag as one of the on page SEO factors. All your Alt tags should contain your primary keywords that perfectly describe the images. Even if your site contains only a few images, they all should contain the Alt tag.

As time goes on your site is going to get better and is going to be even more successful as you learn and improve things. You need to make sure that you focus first on basic web design so that your site won't come up short anywhere. Web design isn't really that complicated but often people turn it into something that is. You need to focus on your foundation first when you want people to respond well to your site, buy your stuff and help you find wild success.
