My Introduction
The name Tourmaline was, in fact, derived from the ancient word for "mixed". This is because all Tourmaline Jewellery, for example, Tourmaline Rings, Tourmaline Pendants and Tourmaline Earrings, is to be found in over 100 different colours. For this reason, some call it the "Chameleon Gemstone".
The Ancient Egyptian people thought that this gemstone had embarked on a mystical journey from the centre of the earth, and in doing so passed through a rainbow where it absorbed all its magnificent colours. They referred to it as the "Rainbow Crystal", and this title is also still used by some today.
It was originally brought over to Europe by the Dutch Traders from Sri Lanka in the 1600's.
Hundreds of years after the manufacture of some of the most prestigious of the Russian crown jewels that were originally thought to be designed using ruby, it was found that they are, in fact, holding those of tourmaline.
