The Fastest And Most Enjoyable Ways Of Learning English

By Adriana Noton

English is said to be a notoriously difficult language to learn. However, when looking at the complex structures and grammar of certain other languages, it's actually comparatively easy. Couple that with the fact that it's so widely spoken all over the world and in media, and you actually have an ideal language to learn. Methods for learning English vary greatly.

People who spend a lot of time in a foreign country find it easiest to pick up their language and so it is with this tongue. Doing this keeps you immersed in the lingo all day and forces you to learn new things constantly. It's a lot of fun as well. If you're one of the unlucky ones unable to do this, don't worry. Simply turn your home into an English one, where the language is available to you where ever you look. Buy films and newspapers, find the right talk show channels on the radio and find television channels using the lingo.

If your decision is to study in a school, select one with native speakers. This way you'll hear the correct accent and flow. It's no good picking up the errors of second language speakers.

If you maintain practice in 4 aspects, you'll improve quickly. That is read and listen, speak and write. The more you put in, the more you get out. School will be helpful but it's possible to study without it.

You can incorporate reading by hiring subtitled movies. Talk radio, because it doesn't have periods of silence, is the quickest way to listen to as many words as possible in a short space of time. You can do it without committing time to it by playing it in your car or when you're doing house work.

You'll struggle with comprehension unless you devote a lot of time to improving your vocabulary. Keep a notebook or cards and write down five words and definitions daily. Read through them often and your word power will keep growing.

To increase your output, write for half an hour a day. Try to use the new words you've learned. Find out what their noun, verb and adverb versions are and use them.

If you have nobody to speak to in the lingo, read aloud for a couple of hours a day. Depending on your level, you'll progress from children's books to more complicated fiction. The internet is another source of literature for reading.

If you make mistakes, view them as learning opportunities. Use them as encouragement rather than discouragement. Where you lack understanding, always ask someone to help you. If you don't, you'll start to feel flooded and confused.

Tests may be intimidating but they're important for learning. They will also show you that you're improving so that you don't lose heart. The internet is a good source of tests. Otherwise, books in various grades are also available.

The key to learning is to maintain a balanced routine of input and output. Don't let your reading take over your speech and vice versa. With plenty of work, it can take as little as 3 months to learn English.
