Building the Best Articles

By Marie Magna

Title: The title of the article must be catchy to get people to click on it in the first place. Obviously, if no one clicks on your article it does not do you any good. Thus, the first and arguably the most important portion of your article will be the title.

Excerpt: This is the text that is often shown under your title to lure people into reading your content. You should make this interesting and promise the solution to a problem or more information about something. You must give the reader a reason to click on your article or they will just assume it is a waste of time.

Spun Content: I know a lot of people swear by this and I suppose it is fine if you are just looking for backlinks. However, if you want someone to read your article, do not spin it. No matter how good a job you do it will never read as well as the original. The second a reader has to reread a sentence, they begin losing interest very quickly. Simply, well written content is easier to read than poorly written content. The reader should never have to go over anything twice.

Look and Feel: When you write consider what people are looking for when they come across your article and put the question that is being asked in an H2 or H3 tag. This will make that section pop out a bit and when people scan your content they know exactly where to go. This could also help you for SEO purposes.

Intro Paragraph: Use the first paragraph to ask the question your readers are probably asking. From there you can use the rest of the content to answer the question you just asked. This is an excellent way to draw the readers in and make sure they at a minimum skim the content and get to the bottom.

Bullets: When you put content in bullets, people are much more likely to read it. People are lazy and love the idea of scanning documents to find the sections they are interested in. If you give people the chance to read 50 words, they would much rather read only 30.

Font Size: When you have control, make your font slightly larger than standard. This makes it very easy and quick to read a large text. You should also tend to use smaller paragraphs and a lot of them. This way the text presents itself well and the page does not have the appearance of being cluttered. Do not make a massive font size either as this will usually turn off the reader and they will go elsewhere.
