Sabotaging Your Email Marketing Effort

By Steven Porter

The internet made it possible for many entrepreneurs worldwide to get in touch with thousands of their clients and prospects without necessarily having to double their marketing efforts. Thanks to the different internet marketing strategies, almost everything that a web entrepreneur wants to achieve can be met in just a few clicks here and there. One of the known internet marketing practices these days is email marketing. It is named as such because it makes use of email to update clients, send invitations, and alert them of special offers. However, not all those who engage in this kind of marketing strategy succeed.

If your past campaigns have been doing no good, not even once, then you better step back and think things into perspective. Check out the following as you may be committing one or two of them without being aware of it:

1. Poor website design

If you think that you did your best in your copy yet you seem not to attract customers in buying something from you, then perhaps the problem is in your website and not your message.

The kind of layout and color that you have for your website can relay different message to your clients. Thus, it's worth investing your time and effort to come up with a professional, sleek-looking one.

2. Not focusing on your target audience

There are email lists available for sale. And marketers are sometimes tempted to buy them for convenience. Yes, they could be convenient to use but you aren't really sure of their quality. Unless you pay for a really good list, then it's time to come up with your own base on certain criteria. This is to make sure you're sending the right message to the right people.

3. Too much selling

Email marketing isn't just all about doing sales pitch to your clients. It's also about sending product/service updates, invitations, and sending special product offers. If your campaign is all about your sales talk then it wouldn't be possible to lose your clients as what they want to read more than that.

4. Inconsistent campaigns

It's good to be creative but with email marketing, this should be done in moderation. Be consistent especially with your message format, design, and overall branding. Don't expect your clients to embrace your company with your inconsistency.

5. Choosing text or HTML format only

You can either send your message in text or HTML. While many email service providers can only read messages in text format, there are also those that are capable of reading those in HTML. So instead of choosing one, find a software that's capable of sending message in both text AND html format.
