Avoiding the Common Email Marketing Mistakes

By Steven Porter

Email marketing may be capable of increasing your site traffic, client list, and eventually, profit, but not all email marketing campaigns are successful. The choice of software is least likely to be blamed upon as it's only a tool that makes email marketing easier.

How one manages in his/her email marketing determines the success of the campaign. Experienced internet marketers know that email marketing entails more than the right marketing mindset. It also requires common sense and avoidance of the following:

1. Lack of creativity in the subject line

If you're wondering why you still haven't gotten a response even if you and other people think that your product is awesome, then you better go back to your campaign. Are you sending your clients updates regularly? If that is a yes, then there's something wrong with either your content or subject line.

Your subject line is like a headline. It tells the clients something about the content of your message. While it has to be relevant, it also needs to be catchy. With a boring subject line, your email could drown in the hundreds of emails received by your client everyday. And with unnoticed emails come unread messages.

2. Poorly written message

Grammatical errors, typos, and misspelled words are a turn-off for a customer. Presence of these in your marketing campaigns just shows that you didn't take time to come up with a well-thought, properly written message. This would make the clients think that you don't value them as customers as you're sending them messages without even proofreading them.

There are materials that can help you get rid of the common grammatical errors. Microsoft word has a spelling checker which you can utilize to correct those unnoticed misspelled words. And proofread, proofread, proofread to check for typos.

3. Violation of Can-Spam Act and other internet laws

With the growing list of online scams, many countries including US come up with laws to protect web users. One of these laws include the Can-Spam Act. Violation of this law and other internet laws will not just land you in jail but as well will damage the reputation of your business.
