You can never be a real leader if you blame circumstances or other people when things don't turn out as planned.

A good leader seems to be able to very easily inspire others, but in reality this is a skill you need to cultivate. One method to do this is to be sure you exhibit real appreciation when a person performs beyond the call of duty. This is exactly why bonuses are often offered to sales representatives; in other kinds of businesses, other perks may be possible. People love to know they're valued, and this means not only complimenting them verbally, but giving them tangible rewards as well. People will not be motivated to try their best if they don't really feel they have anything to gain from it.

In order to be a great leader, you should make your objectives and expectations as clear as you possibly can. Breaking down much larger goals into smaller ones that can be done in a single day is often a helpful practice. Some companies have many mission statements but don't make clear what each person should be doing today. That's why it's a good idea to have short term objectives that everybody is clear about. These goals must be discussed at meetings, and in one-on-one talks. Critical objectives must be emailed to persons or distributed in memos. These objectives have to be practical and reasonable, as you don't want to frustrate people by making them feel like they're always failing to achieve their goals.
