29Prime: Google Hot Trends Becomes Google Hot Searches

By Jennifer Stanowitz

Google has been pretty busy for the past month making changes on their website. Last week, Google Places became Google Plus Local Pages. This week, Google Hot Trends transformed into Google Hot Searches. Some have expressed happiness with these changes, while others express their reservations.

You may not be entirely aware of what Google Hot Searches does. It's quite simple! Basically, Google Hot Searches tracks the most searched topics on the Internet. The update will make the page look more like a magazine and have images from newspapers. The ability to search for hot trends by the date has been removed. Before this change occurred, the site offered a list of the 20 hottest search terms at any moment. Now, the list is being replaced with a smaller version of the hottest news stories for the day.

Apparently, Google is hopeful that this new system will be more accurate and productive than the previous one. Google claims that the filtering system will provide more detailed results for the searcher. As stated earlier, many are pleased with the changes because it offers more accurate and descriptive results.

It's a different story for the bloggers. Many bloggers have expressed their frustration with the new system because they rely on it to provide them with up-to-date searches and are disappointed that there isn't a list. Bloggers would rather have lists instead of random searches that are trending. Complaints have been made that the Hot Searches page is too difficult to find.

Bloggers heavily rely on sites like Google Hot Searches to provide them with information of what users are searching and certain news stories the audience would like to read about. Since 2007, the list has greatly diminished. Initially, it started at the top 100 searches and now only includes the top searches for the day. Hopefully, Google will be able to tweak the new system a little bit so bloggers will be able to benefit from the changes.
