Facebook Social Network

By Robert Smith

In the great big world of the internet, there are many interesting people to meet and communicate with. There are those people who use the internet to socialize much more frequently than the vast majority of folks who go online, and they tend to be of a certain age. Among these more frequent social users are students in both high school and college. So of course it makes perfect sense to have developed a website for these people who most enjoy socializing via the internet. Among the most well-known and highly used of social networking websites is Facebook.

Although included among the most popular of these websites, Facebook may not be quite as well known as MySpace or Yahoo!360. But the site is extremely popular with those of a certain age who love to communicate online, especially those of high school and college age. The Facebook user is asked to register with at least one specific network. This network could include the user's current school, regardless of whether they are attending high school or college. After they have joined, they are then able to contact other friends who are in the same network.

But there can be disadvantages as well as advantages to the Facebook network one has chosen to join. The reason behind this is that Facebook does not operate in the same manner as others of the websites devoted to social networking. You become limited to communicating with only those who have registered for the same network as you, not allowing you to contact any site members you want. Your own security is the reason Facebook limits your contacts. But you may not want to be limited in who you communicate with, even though filtering who may see your profile is considered by Facebook to protect your safety.

Even though the emphasis is still on high school and college students, another great feature has been added to Facebook. Workplace networks are the feature that can add more to your networking experience. The workplace network functions in the same way as a school network; you are allowed to have access to other members who have worked or currently work for the company or organization where you are or were employed.

As so many companies have expanded into large corporations across the country and even throughout other parts of the world, this is a wonderful feature. You just might meet and become friends with another coworker who lives far away from where you do.
